Can Money Buy Happiness?

Here's some new research about that . . . and about how the way you spend your money CAN buy happiness.

This article also reminds me that there are so many ways we can do things for others without spending a dime. So I think I'll stop writing this right now and call my friend who is sick to offer support!

I challenge you to do something for someone else - whether it costs money or not - and let us know how you feel afterward!

Well, I did just that - called my friend, offered my support, listened to her situation, and made some plans with her. I feel pretty good about it!

This article reminds me of the new reality tv show called "Oprah's Big Give". You don't always have to give money, but think of other creative ways to make or change a strangers life. Sometimes just listening and being supportive and offering your time and understanding means more than monetary value.

the small things you give is just as important as the huge things you give.

i guess the thought that it is better to give than to receive is truly a way to peace and happiness.

I love to do for others. Its always great to buy someone something just for the fun of it. I have some great friends and am always there for them when they need to talk. Doing for others brings happiness to yourself in my eyes.

I think that this is a great article because it encourages people to give more. The sad thing is that some people would only give in hopes of personal gain. I wonder if giving did not have an postive effect, would people still give?

Money is not everything. It's the people in your life that matter the most!

Very interesting article. There is tremendous gratification in giving. I enjoy brightening up a child's day or an elderly person's day with a thoughtful gift or plant.

My grandmother has a group of girls called the handmadiens. We're always making deserts for the older people in our church just to brighten there day! It is a wounder feeling!

I love money but it is not everything, and it can't buy happiness. There are things way more important than money. And I would rather give than receive.

I believe money can buy happiness, but it can not buy friendship, but then again if you have money who needs friends....Buy them to!

It's good to have money, but money can not buy you happiness. I rather have a peace of mind. I feel good when I can help someone, and it would make them happy.

I would imagine that spending money on others would bring you more happiness than spendind it on yourself. Form experience i would have to say i agree. When i bought something i wanted i was happy for a time but then i eventually got over it. When i bought something for someone else i was happy and stayed happy about it. Everytime i saw them i would remember that day and it brouhgt joy to me.

I completely agree with this article! I mean it's nice to treat yourself to something nice here and there but I always feel ten times better about what my money went towards if it was for someone else. I know I like to make others happy and nothing makes me happier than making their day just a little bit brighter. (:

This article made me look at the popular saying about money and happiness a totally different way. I had never thought of spending money on others would make you happier. I agree with this statement. Just buying a meal for my friends made me in a better mood.

I recently watched "Oprah's Big Give," and this article brought up a few questions. Is it really the same thing when you do something nice for some one, but get put on tv because of it. I do not know, but I finished watching the show thinking that sometimes people who recieve help from you may not want the entire world knowing their situation. I do not know though, this was just something that came to my mind watching that program and reading this article.

money can be good and bad depending on the way you use it just like it proved in the artical but if a person could have more money and still be happy then they are just as good as the people with no money and still happy

Just spending your money for the right reasons will give you happiness. buys someone a gift randomely. pay for someones meal.

I agree with this article 100%! Whenever I go out shopping I always regret spending money but whenever I buy someone else something, regardless of the price, I feel really good about myself. I love helping others. -April Woolard (WHS)

In my opinion, money doesn't buy happiness! Its the little things in life! Although money is a contributing factor!-Jade Godley

Happiness is in the eye of the beholder. If someone truly thinks that having money and fitting in makes them happy, then despite what others think, we really cant say anything about it.

Having money is good because it can keep you safe and if you have a steady income it can reduce stress. However, money alone, with nothing else will never make you happy.

I totally agree with this article. Around Christmas time my church fills shoeboxes to give to needy families. I always feel happier knowing that I helped someone.

wow, people shouldnt look at charity though as having personal benefits, that seems a little selfish to me. Doing for others has always made me happy though, and after reading this it has persuaded me to do so even more

I think this is a great article. It says so much about being a good person. Being able to do something for others is a very rewarding experience. I agree that it makes me feel better about myself when I do something for someone or just listen to a friend that needs to talk.
